With Hold & Fire in Fresh KDS, your kitchen knows exactly when to start preparing each course—without needing separate "fire" tickets. Whether a course is fired from your POS system or the KDS screen, this feature ensures the kitchen stays in sync with service timing.

How It Works:

  • Hold Courses Until Needed – Items on hold appear dimmed on the KDS, indicating they should not be prepared yet.
  • Fire Courses from Your POS – When a course is fired from your POS system (e.g., Lightspeed), the course status updates automatically on all Fresh KDS screens, changing from 🚫 Hold 🚫 to 🔥 Fire 🔥. This eliminates the need for extra "fire" tickets and reduces confusion about what should be cooked.
  • Fire Courses or Items from the KDS – Kitchen staff can also manually fire individual items or full courses directly from Fresh KDS when needed.

Seamless Sync Across Screens

  • The Hold & Fire status updates in real time across all KDS screens, ensuring everyone is aligned.
  • The "Sync Order Holds" setting ensures fired items appear properly across all connected KDS screens.

Smart Recall & Holds Management

  • If an order is bumped while some items are still on hold, only the fired items move to the recall section.
  • Items that remain on hold will stay in the holds section until they are fired from either the POS or KDS.
